What is the cloud?

Cloud Services

The next wave is cloud computing and mobility! What is cloud computing, and what can it do for you?

Cloud computing is having your software, data, computing resources, and IT infrastructure hosted off site and served to you through the Internet, on demand.

Cloud services have long been offered in the form of SaaS (software as a service), such as Microsoft Hosted Exchange and SharePoint.  These applications were designed for very large operations and as such left smaller businesses without cloud access.  As the Internet and ISP services matured it became feasible for everyone to leverage the cloud.

There are good reasons why you might want to use the cloud:

  • Lower costs: Since it’s on-demand you can pay for what you use, and nothing more
  • Gain flexibility: You can adjust resource use for what you need with no long-term commitment
  • Increase storage: You can store more data in the cloud than in a private computer system
  • Add mobility: Your employees can access information wherever they are, rather than having to remain at their desks

Why is this important?  Businesses may not know their short term and long term growth.  The cloud makes adding employees and customers easier by eliminating the need to plan servers and software around what you think will happen – only to find out that you were wrong and have to start over with new hardware.

We can help you harness the cloud for your business in three ways:

  • Build a flexible, portable and scalable in-house cloud solution
  • Host your private cloud environment
  • A hybrid of both
