Web Site Design
Having a website is one of the most proactive steps that a business of any size can take to immediately improve their posture in today's information economy. An Internet presence communicates an image of professionalism and a commitment to global availibility to potential customers, and is directly quantifiable with increased sales and even marketshare. Regardless of the size of your business, an Internet website will provide you with the highest ROI (Return on Investment) of any means of communicating your business to potential customers, simply because of the dynamic nature of the Internet itself. When a business employs direct mail marketing campaigns, fliers, and other marketing techniques to advertise, they are leaving potential customers with a static image- static in that the information in their posession regarding your company can't be updated to reflect changes. These marketing techniques also require continued investment of money and time for any degree of effectiveness.
With a website, your business is able to provide potential customers with a truly dynamic frontend- an Internet website can be updated at any time to reflect changes in strategy, new product offerings, news updates, and the like- the sky is the limit with a website. By making an investment in establishing a quality Internet presence, you are guarenteeing that your potential customers will always have the most current information about your organization at their fingertips, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. However, while the benefits of a professional and properly constructed website are incalculable, a poorly planned and designed website can have a significant chilling effect on the growth of your business. In the same way that potential customers are drawn to visually appealing and informative Internet websites, they are just as easily confused and turned away from websites that are either confusing, sloppy, or just of poor overall quality. Crafting an appealing and informative website requires a skilled, experienced team to work closely with individual business owners to set forth an Internet presence that is truly representative and overtly communicative of the business as a whole.
The Internet has set a new standard in commerce, information exchange and Business-to-Business (B2B) collaboration, offering numerous quantifiable benefits to organizations of any size or target market. Far Out Solutions is the company that believes in developing web solutions that make the Internet work for your business, not the other way around.
The effectiveness of an organization's website is directly measureable by the team behind it, making the process of choosing a development team a painstaking, tedious effort. Far Out Solutions employs a company-wide philosophy of doing more work initially to provide for a smoother transition in terms of scalability and growth, and we design all websites with this philosophy in mind. A website designed by Far Out Solutions is a website with limitless growth potential, minimal required effort in relation to maintenance and updating, and a secure, trusted space from which to conduct transactions and exchange information online.
Web Application Development
Web applications are business strategies and policies implemented on the Web through the use of User, Business and Data services. These tools are where the future lies. In this article, I'll take you through the essential phases in the life cycle of a Web application project, explain what options you have, and help you formulate a plan for successful Web application endeavors of your own. First, though, let's take a brief overview of Web applications.
Who Needs Web Applications and Why?
There are many entities that require applications for the Web-one example would be Business-to-Business interaction. Many companies in the world today demand to do business with each other over secure and private networks. This process is becoming increasingly popular with a lot of overseas companies who outsource projects to each other. From the simple process of transferring funds into a bank account, to deploying a large scale Web services network that updates pricing information globally, the adoption of a Web applications infrastructure is vital for many businesses.
The Web Application Model
The Web application model, like many software development models, is constructed upon 3 tiers: User Services, Business Services and Data Services. This model breaks an application into a network of consumers and suppliers of services.
The User Service tier creates a visual gateway for the consumer to interact with the application. This can range from basic HTML and DHTML to complex COM components and Java applets.
The user services then grab business logic and procedures from the Business Services. This tier can range from Web scripting in ASP/PHP/JSP to server side programming such as TCL, CORBA and PERL, that allows the user to perform complex actions through a Web interface.
The final tier is the Data Service layer. Data services store, retrieve and update information at a high level. Databases, file systems, and writeable media are all examples of Data storage and retrieval devices. For Web applications, however, databases are most practical. Databases allow developers to store, retrieve, add to, and update categorical information in a systematic and organized fashion.
Electronic Commerce has recently become one of the most discussed trends in the business world. It’s becoming nearly impossible to open a newspaper or magazine without being taken by statements claiming that the internet will change the way business is done entirely, allowing people to have everything delivered to them on-demand, with just a few mouse clicks. With this being a possibility, it is not yet completely a reality. The problem for many small businesses is that while they appreciate the potential of doing business on the Internet, it can become very difficult to integrate eCommerce into their existing selling strategy without being properly prepared and educated on the process, and consider it a very risky, and sometimes dangerous step. In most cases, the issue occurs due to the fact that small businesses are mostly built around traditional business models, which follow the basic princepals of commerce that were used before the internet, and even computers were in mainstream use. This leaves a gap of technical skills, and remains the overall reason why eCommerce isn't a crucial element to most small businesses today.
Is eCommerce right for you?
If you are providing a product or service of virtually any kind, then the answer is almost certainly yes! The Internet allows you to place your storefront directly before the eyes of millions of potential customers worldwide, at a fraction of the cost of operating a brick and mortar store! The Internet provides a unique and unprecedented vehicle for limitless growth, a vehicle where the sky is truly the limit. While making an educated and informed decision is crucial to any business strategy, don't let the negative hype fool you - eCommerce doesn't need to be complicated, it doesn't need to be time consuming, and it certainly doesn't need to be costly.
Who can/can not see your storefront?
We have invested a lot of efforts researching and usability testing. Your storefront will reflect the same level of quality when displayed on any platform or internet-capable device, as our proprietary eCommerce systems render completely W3C-compliant source code. We also ensure disabled access by conforming to guidelines set out by the RNIB and the United States Government.
Branding & Graphic Design
In the blistering fast pace business world, having a company brand is easily one of the most important aspects of marketing for a business big or small. A well done company logo will be recognized by a customer in a heartbeat and convey a professional attitude that sends shivers down the spines of competitors. On the other hand, a company logo that was done in an amateur fashion will detract from business and provide competitors with a certain knowledge that customers will think ill of the crude logo. Just as important as an awe inspiring logo is a well done graphic by a professional designer. A graphic design; whether it's done artfully or in an unrefined fashion will speak volumes to customers and business competitors. Instead of being remembered for inferior designs, use a professional graphic designer that will generate eye catching graphics.
